Winter Weather Collection Schedules

Seattle Housing Authority Solid Waste Divisions carefully monitors weather conditions in light of public safety. We are committed to keeping our regular collection schedules whenever possible. However, collection trucks are very heavy equipment and it can be extremely dangerous for drivers, pedestrians, and other vehicles to put trucks on the streets in conditions that might compromise safe operation.

When snow and ice make conditions unsafe, we will delay service until safe collection can be assured. We know there is some inconvenience when service is delayed, but we appreciate your cooperation in order to ensure safety.

If weather prevents curbside collection, residents should remove containers from the street and put them out on the next regular service day for each container unless they are notified that there will be a special make-up day scheduled. If multi-family containers are not emptied, they will be serviced as soon as conditions allow.

Updated Thursday, January 19th: Seattle Housing Authority Solid Waste Division inspected the roads today in your community in light of public safety, due to the heavily packed snow, and ice we are unable to provide safe collection for garbage, recycling or food and yard waste. We regret the inconvenience, and will do all we can to get material collected as soon as safe collection is possible.

Thursday's residential curbside customer's collection may leave their garbage, recycling, food and yard waste carts out, however, please locate carts, so that they are accessible from the street, and avoid shoveling snow against them. Seattle Housing Authority Solid Waste Division will collect them following day on Friday, January 20th between 7am to 5pm.

The current schedule is as follows providing weather permits:

Thursday subscribers: If weather permits safe curbside collection, residents should leave their containers on the curb, there will be a special make-up day scheduled on Friday, January 20th. However, if we are unable to provide collection for Thursday subscriber on Friday, January 20th, then Thursday subscribers will receive a double collection next Thursday, January 26th.

Friday subscribers: will receive their regular collection on Friday, January 20th; providing weather permitted safe collection. However if we are unable to provide collection for Friday subscribers then Friday subscribers will receive a double collection next Friday, January 27th.

Every Other Week Recycling Collected (EOWRC) two weeks after missed collection:

If recycling is regularly collected every other week, the missed material will be collected on the next scheduled day for that container (two weeks from the missed collection), unless residents are otherwise notified.

Extra garbage should be put in securely tied plastic bags and place clearly labeled extra garbage next to the garbage container.

Extra recycling can be put in clear plastic bags or in plastic recycling bins or cardboard boxes (2x2x2 ft. limit) labeled "recycling", and placed clearly labeled extra recycling next to the recycling container.

Seattle Housing Authority Solid Waste Division is committed to providing reliable collection for all customers. However, in the event that circumstances such as unsafe roads interfere with service schedules, we appreciate customer understanding and cooperation as we manage collection on emergency scheduling.
