What is organic waste?
Organic waste includes fruits, vegetables, tea bags, shells and bones, coffee grounds and filters, pasta and rice, eggshells, breads and grains and cheese, meats, and dairy products. It also includes spoiled paper, such as paper bags, towels, newspaper, greasy pizza boxes, uncoated paper plates, shredded paper and yard waste.

Is recycling organic/food waste mandatory in the City of Seattle?
Yes. Curbside pick-up customers must have food and yard waste collection unless they compost on site.

If I can't put organic/food waste in my regular trash, what can I do with it?
You have two options: Compost your own organic waste with your yard waste on your property or sign up for Impact Property Services' yard and organic waste weekly collection services. Call 206-716-1310 ext. 10 to sign up.

What type of container can I use to recycle for organic/food waste? What are the costs?
You have three service options: a 13–gallon cart ($3.60 per month), a 35-gallon cart ($5.60 per month), or a 95-gallon cart ($6.90 per month).

When will organic/food waste pick-up occur?
Weekly collection will be provided with your garbage collection.
